Well I am Microsoft and Windows fan but Vista got to much bugs and errors to fix ,software and drivers compatabilitie problems. But if all works just fine and there are no errors or bugs and all software and drivers works just perfect then well maybe Vista is better than Mac OS X and Linux based operating system. But still there is problems with viruses but averagely you get viruses by using illegal software and LOOKING AT WEBSITES!
But still Windows 7 is better than Vista I use Win7 .

One does not have to get used to an OS. I never had to learn much to use OS X after using Windows or Windows after using Linux. But I had to learn so much to learn Linux after using DOS.

Windows, no matter which version you use, is full of security holes. Linux IS NOT. I’d never perform an online financial transaction on windows because you can always be sure that someone is watching, the front door is wide open. With Linux the door is locked and I have the only key.

Tested it too. Opened a Vbox with 2.5GB Ram. Linux uses .5, so there’s 3 Already. Loaded HL2 on top of that for a total of 3.5GB Ram out of 4 used.

My bad, I didn’t see that comment in context originally. Though it’s true…your counterargument brings up numerous other things. Hardware/software compatibility are unrelated (for the most part) to the OS itself (the major exceptions being in relation to hardware architecture) though it does effect usability. Consistency both supports and harms an OS in the sense that usually configurability is increased when an OS is less “consistent”.

I don’t see how your point correlates to Linux distros in general…Just use a distro that has a more extensive ASLR implementation. It’s not even like there is only one or two. Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora/RHEL/CentOS being the most common examples…. This is more so an attack against Mac OS X which is said to have relatively basic ASLR implementations.
